Tonight was one for the books. The birthday tradition is a meal of the birthday person's choice, a movie of their choosing for Family Movie Night, and a cake of their choice. After making mama's famous meatloaf, I decided to try baking a home birthday for the first time in my life. I used my starter (The Beast who I have named Ragnar Loafbrook). My son's birthday is this weekend, so we celebrated tonight by baking a homemade chocolate cake and made peanut butter icing that nearly tastes identical to a Reese's peanut butter cup! Needless to say, not a single person in my family of 7 had a complaint. Going from the "Muffin Incident of '23" to a fluffy, most beautiful chocolate cake is already making me feel more confident in my baking! Tomorrow, I have a whole day of baking ahead with more of my discard (respectively named Flour Child).
So far, I have made -
Butter crackers
Blueberry coffee cake
Chocolate chip cookies
Reese's cake
Happy baking, y'all 🍞🎂🍪🧇
A happy midwestern mama
What a heartwarming family tradition! The Sourdough Reese's Cake sounds absolutely divine, and it's amazing to see your confidence growing in baking—Ragnar Loafbrook and Flour Child sound like MVPs of the kitchen! Speaking of indulgence and creativity, your story is as captivating as a plot twist in hindi serials, where unexpected triumphs always take center stage. Wishing your son a fantastic birthday and good luck with your upcoming baking adventures
